REPOST: Baby Step 50: Home Invasion Protection – Safe and Inexpensive

Here is a post from the past worth revisiting –

Baby Step 50 HOME INVASION PROTECTION.

Defending yourself and family during a home invasion can be done both safely and inexpensively.

Pepper spray has become a popular weapon of choice to defend oneself if attacked or robbed. However with pepper spray, to be successful one has to get too close to the culprit and could be overpowered by the intruder.

Many police officers recommend that you purchase an inexpensive can of wasp spray instead. The wasp spray can shoot up to twenty feet away and is a lot more accurate.  Wasp spray will temporarily blind an attacker until they get to the hospital for an antidote. Purchase a few cans at your grocery or hardware store. Place one in your kitchen in an easy to reach place and another one in your bedroom near your bedside. Take a third can of wasp spray to your back yard to practice and become proficient in target spraying. Practice on a pole or stick poked vertically in the ground standing 6 to 7 feet tall. Aim for where you imagine the mugger’s or robber’s eyes would be. Practice will build confidence that will be needed if a hostile condition occurs.

Put your car keys beside your bed at night.

Home Security

If you hear an intruder outside your home or someone trying to get in your house or worse they are already inside, just press the panic button for your car. Your car alarm will be set off, and the horn will blare loudly until either you depress the panic button or the car battery dies. It’s a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it.  The car alarm will go off from most everywhere inside your house. It will work if you park your car in your driveway or garage. A robber breaking into your house will not stick around long with your car alarm going off. After a few seconds your neighbors will be looking out their windows to see what is happening outside.

Take a baby step and protect yourself safely from a home invasion.
