Camp fire – Dutch oven Apple fritters are crispy hot on the outside – fluffy and full of apple flavor on the inside.
Ingredients:
1 – Peeled, cored and diced apple of choice
2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 cup milk
2 cups vegetable oil
Directions: Fire start 12- 14 charcoal briquettes. In a medium sized bowl, mix diced apple and all dry ingredients. Add milk and stir until batter is well mixed. Let batter rest for 10 minutes. Batter should be thick and wet – add and mix in small amount of milk if needed.
When charcoal briquettes turn grey-white spread out evenly in a 8 inch circle. place a Dutch oven or cast iron fry pan directly over hot coals to heat (3-5 minutes). Add 2 cups of vegetable oil into pan and wait until oil begins to smoke slightly. Gently drop large tablespoons of batter into the hot oil. Fry apple fritters until golden brown before flipping. Remove fritters from hot oil when they are evenly golden brown. Place on paper towel to drain and cool slightly. Serve while still warm.
Sweet apples and cinnamon baked into a delicious warm fritter are perfect with breakfast or as a camp fire snack . Makes 10-12 hot and delicious apple fritters.
