This tempting recipe is a simply delicious hot and sweet meal made with cabbage.
To make this caramelized cabbage you will need a head of cabbage (halved and cored), sea salt (1 teaspoon), freshly ground black pepper (1/2 teaspoon), cane sugar (1/3 cup), water (1 cup), olive oil (3 tablespoons) and one fresh lime.
First cut cabbage into 1 inch slabs then chop into 1/4 inch pieces.
Add chopped cabbage to a large pot then add the water. Simmer the cabbage over medium heat occasionally stirring until the water is absorbed and cabbage is translucent in color.
Add olive oil and mix into cabbage. Next add ground pepper and cane sugar. Mix into cabbage and stir until caramelized. Add additional cane sugar and/or black pepper to your taste preference – continue cooking until cabbage is light brown in color and fully caramelized.
Serve caramelized cabbage hot or cold on a bed of rice or mixed into your favorite pasta. Squeeze fresh lime juice and enjoy . This recipe can be a quick and healthy main dish or the perfect side for chicken, fish, pork, shrimp or sausages.
