Tempting: French Bread Pizza – Cheap and Quick

Here is a family favorite recipe that beats out a pizza delivery vote every time and costs less.

We purchase deeply discounted day old French bread loaves at both our grocery store and our favorite sub shop. Extra loaves are placed in large zip lock bags and frozen for later use.  Most of our pizza toppings are either fresh from the garden or canned / dried from our pantry.

This recipe is completed within a few minutes. By the time the oven or grill is preheated your French bread pizza is ready for baking.

French Bread Pizza

1 – day old French bread loaf (serves 2-3)

6 oz. pizza  Sauce

1/2 cup grated cheese

1/4 cup chopped onions (optional)

Choice of  toppings fresh or canned:

Ham, pepperoni, cooked hamburger or sausage, olives, pineapple, mushroom,  peppers and artichoke hearts.

Preparation: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Slice French bread loaf lengthwise in half. Using a large spoon, spread 3 oz. pizza sauce on each half  loaf. Layer favorite toppings on top of sauce. Add grated cheese evenly over pizza toppings. Place Pizza loaves on a cookie sheet and bake for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove when cheese is melted and bread is crispy brown.

Cut into chunks and devour – it’s so light, crispy and delicious!
