Baby Step 29 – Certify Your Wildlife Habitat

Certify your backyard homestead as a wildlife habitat by the National Wildlife Federation.

By fulfilling certain wildlife requirements you can register your yard as a Certified Wildlife Habitat. Once certified you will receive a registered certificate with your habitat name and number. For an additional small fee you can purchase a Certified Wildlife Habitat sign to post in your habitat to express your awareness and concern for nature.

Due to the fast pace of urban development, wildlife habitats are diminishing at a frightening rate. Undeveloped land is being bulldozed over to become office buildings, parking lots, shopping complexes and factories.

Backyards that contain and share nature’s  flower gardens, water gardens, fields and forest are replacing habitats lost by development. Express your concerns and add focus to your hard work by registering your wildlife habitat.

Printed on the Certificate:

This habitat is certified in the National Wildlife Federation’s worldwide network of mini-refuges. Because of the owner’s conscientious planning, landscaping, and sustainable gardening, wildlife may find quality habitat – food, water, cover, and places to raise their young.

Take a baby step visit the NATIONAL WILDLIFE FEDERATION (www.nwf.org) to see if your backyard habitat qualifies for national certification.

  1. Lovely. Thanks for sharing. I was thinking about doing something like this, but since the visit from the bear, I’m pretty sure we’re already a wildlife habitat. Maybe next year. 😉
